Lake Rabun GA Nominated USA Today best lake in America: Every Fourth of July, classic wooden Chris-Craft and Gar Wood boats parade on Lake Rabun past festively decorated boathouses swarming with kids showing off their cannonballs. The modest lake houses that peek out from a curtain of the rhododendrons and firs are treasured family heirlooms, every board in every dock worn smooth by the bare footsteps of generations.
It is the third lake in a six-lake series that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series begins with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake, followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls, Lake Tugalo, and Lake Yonah. Lake Rabun was built in a deep valley located along a 10-mile (16 km) section of the Tallulah River.
