Information: Lake Maxinkuckee is the second largest lake in Indiana. It is located in southwestern Marshall County and the town of Culver is nestled around its northern and western shores. It is oblong in shape, approximately three miles long and two and a quarter miles wide; it covers an area said to be 1,864 acres and its shoreline is of about ten miles of lake front. Volume of the lake is 14,858 million gallons of water or 45,600 acre feet. Normal average water level elevation is 733.12 feet mean sea level. Surface area: 1,864 acres (754 ha) Average depth: 24 ft (7 m) Max depth: 88 ft (27 m) Type: Natural spring fed. It is of almost every type of terrain from level beach, gradual slope, steep incline, abrupt bluff, rounded headland; elevation from waters edge to nearly fifty feet in places.

Lake Maxinkuckee, covering 1,864 acres (8 km2), is the second largest natural lake in the U.S. state of Indiana . It is located near the town of Culver, Indiana, in southwestern Marshall County. Lake Maxinkuckee has a maximum depth of 88 feet (27 m) and an average depth of 24 feet (seven meters). Local residents and visitors practice ice fishing here, the most frequent catch being bluegill. Yellow perch, crappie, and bass are also common catches.
The first inhabitants of the lake area were Mound Builders, probably the Potawatomi or Miami. Several mounds were built on the banks of the lake, the largest being "Pare Mound," probably used as a point of reference for the natives. The first white settlers came in 1836. Henry Harrison Culver, for whom the town is now named, founded the Culver Military Academy in 1894.
