Information: Buckhorn Lake, located in Buckhorn, Kentucky, United States northwest of Hazard, Kentucky off Kentucky Route 28, is a 1,230-acre (5 km2) reservoir created by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1967 by impounding the Kentucky River. The lake begins the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River.

Three campgrounds are located along Buckhorn Lake that are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities. Six boat ramps are also at Buckhorn Lake, including a ramp at the park.
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park overlooks Buckhorn Lake, which is one of the best fishing lakes in eastern Kentucky. Anglers can fish for largemouth bass, white crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, or muskie at this lake. Buckhorn Lake is one of three lakes in Kentucky that are stocked with muskie by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Muskie used to naturally range in Middle Fork Kentucky River where the lake now stands.
Middle Fork Kentucky River below Buckhorn Lake Dam attracts anglers interested in catching white
crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, muskie, and rainbow trout. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources stocks a total of 5,600 rainbow trout below the dam each year during April through November. Float fishing access is available at a ramp just below the dam. Boaters can float 5 miles downstream to the ford at Johnson Branch.
