Information: Dewey Lake, located near Prestonsburg, Kentucky in Floyd County, is part of the integrated flood reduction system operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for the entire Ohio River Basin. The 1,100-acre (4 km2) lake was formed by impounding John's Creek in 1949, and was named for either Admiral George Dewey or local resident Dewey Wells.

Dewey Lake has three boat ramps within the park for boating access. The headwaters of Dewey Lake can be float
fished on Johns Creek from near the Pike County border at a ford near Thomas off Hwy 194 downstream 4.8 miles to the German Bridge boat ramp.
Jenny Wiley State Resort Park borders almost one entire side of Dewey Lake where anglers can fish for large mouth bass, white crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish.
Anglers can also fish Johns Creek at the picnic area below Dewey Lake Dam. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources stocks a total of 2,200 rainbow trout in this area during April, May, October, and November. Johns Creek also offers fishing for argemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted (Kentucky) bass, white crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish. A 3.8-mile float trip is possible on Johns Creek from the picnic area below the dam downstream to a pull-off on 2381. Look for obstructions such as log jams and deadfall trees that may require portaging around.
