Information: Greenbo Lake is a 181-acre reservoir nestled in the Appalachian foothills of Greenup County, Kentucky. The lake was jointly created in 1955 by the Greenbo Lake Association (a group of residents who desired to create a recreation attraction in their area) and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Its distinctive name derives from the combination of the names of the county it is located in and adjacent Boyd County. The lake was named after Greenup and Boyd Counties because it lies between the both of them. The association held a competition for the naming of this lake, and the winner picked the name.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources stocks a total of 15,000 rainbow trout in this lake during January and October each year. Anglers have the best success at catching trout from mid-May through early September at night from dusk until 1 am. Fish at depths of 12 - 20 feet from a boat with a floating light over the deepest area of the lake. Motorboats must be operated at idle speed at Greenbo Lake. Anglers can also experience good fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish at Greenbo Lake. A fishing pier is located in the upper lake area near the boat ramp and a fishing walkway parallels the face of the dam. Because this lake is so deep and clear, fishing success is best during early morning, late afternoon, or at night.
Species that may be taken include largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and rainbow trout.
